AMG Camp- Rock Pro 4- New Hampshire Alpine Climbing

Rock Pro IV Alpine Climbing Camp

This is the fourth+ of a series of progressive camps that Acadia Mountain Guides teaches. The ultimate goal is for a camper over time to become a competent climber that is lead climbing.

*New for 2020 season*

Who’s it for? A climber age 13-18. A graduate of RockPro II or III or equivalent skills often gained by climbing with adult partners. Climber can belay and rappel comfortably without guidance and is able to build top rope anchors. Is taking an interest in alpine climbing.

What do we learn? Climbers will develop advanced anchoring, belaying, and climbing skills along with the basics of partner rescue. Led by AMGA rock course graduate or higher.

Where do we go? Acadia National Park and White Mountains, NH

Ages: 13-18

 Camper to Leader Ratio: 3:1

If you love climbing, gear, and big cliffs, you will love this camp. This camp will feature a smaller student to guide ratio for maximum individual attention and more complex climbing routes.

One of the only camps in the U.S. that takes teens on multi-pitch climbs and teaching the basics of traditional lead climbing to teens! Camp is based in Acadia National Park, home to high quality pink granite, where the cliffs are loaded with continuous cracks and corners making it ideal for learning traditional lead climbing.

Each day involves a full day of climbing, often multi-pitch, and placing gear. Interspersed with the climbs will be informative lessons on technical skills.

You will continue to learn about placing both active and passive protection, setting up anchor systems, placing gear on lead, and setting up more complex climbs on your own. Participants in this camp should have RockPro II or equivalent skills.

If you are ready there will be an opportunity to lead routes after demonstrating proficiency on “mock” leads.

This particular section will focus on an introduction to above tree climbing in the White Mountains.

Sample Itinerary:

Day 1: Acadia National Park:  Review of climbing skills.
Day 2: Acadia National Park:  Bubble Rock. Multi-pitch climbing.
Day 3: Acadia National Park: Southwall of Champlain Mountain. Traditional Lead climbing. Camp in National Park. Travel to White Mountains.
